Go APE for Reading

Last week we had the launch of our wonderful Go APE for reading initiative across the school. We had a great time finding out about what we needed to do and of course learning about our new reading friend, Alfie the Ape. Alfie loves to read and he wants as many of us to be reading: not only our home reading books but a whole myriad of reading material. He has set each year group 10 challenges to try and complete. I will update you over the next few weeks on how we are doing with our reading bingo challenges.

A fabulous September

September was a fabulous month - thanks to our wonderful children and staff. Children continue to look smart, work hard and behave well. What more can we ask for?

The staff are also working hard, providing exciting experiences for the children and school is a busy place to be.

In September we celebrated Grandparents week with many of our grandparents coming along to learn alongside the children. We also held a Macmillan Cancer afternoon where we raised £206. We will add to this with our harvest activities and hopefully we will reach the £500 mark for this worthy charity.

Welcome back

After 6 long weeks off it has been lovely to return back to school this week. I have been very impressed with the smartness of children's uniform and the brilliance of their behaviour. Our children are super and we are incredibly proud of them.

Mrs Lee's Sewing Club

Today we had more pirate puppets completed in Sewing Club. Here are Ellie, Maja and Kiera with their marvellous creations.

Well done girls!

Rowing news and sticky experiments!

I am delighted to announce the sucess of our school rowing teams. These children meet up once a week at lunchtime and perfect their rowing techniques and pitch their skills against 70 other teams across the country. This is our first year competing and I am proud to reveal that our boys finished 4th in the country and our girls 7th. What wonderful news! They should be very proud of themselves.

Y6 Pre-test breakfast

This week our Y6 children are taking their National Tests. The children (and staff) have worked so hard to prepare themselves for this all important week. To make sure that the children are relaxed and ready for their tests, they have been coming in early and getting breakfast made by the staff.

Here they were this morning waiting for their toast. It certainy helped them with their Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling tests today.

The librarian came to visit FS1

Our children love to hear stories read to them so today was a very exciting day. We had the librarian come in to read stories to our children in nursery - but also our mummies and daddies came in to listen and enjoy the stories too.

We had a huge turnout as you can see from the photographs below - it was absolutely great!

Y4 sewing club news

I had a great session with my Y4 sewing club today. We are making pirate themed puppets and today our first puppets were completed. Shiver me' timbers!

Here are pirates Ben and Molly with their finished creations.

Creepy Crawlies Everywhere!

This morning Rent-a-beast came into school bringing with them lots of creepy crawlies for our reception children to look at and touch. The range of minibeasts and bugs was absolutely amazing and the children had a fabulous time. Even though there was a spider big enough to eat some of our children, fortunately the same number of children left the room as entered so I don't think it had a feast today.

Thank you to parents for contributing to this fabulous opportunity for your children. They enjoyed it immensely.

Sewing Club news and Cross country success

I was so proud today when Lily completed her tiger puppet in sewing club. She has worked so hard on it and it looks great. Here she is with her fabulous creation.
